The pattern is recognized by a collection of three in word, works, and life.

In Romans God has made himself manifest (word), he has spoken through creation (works) and through his son (life).

God spoke to Israel at the mountain, but they did not have ears to hear (word). He gave them tablets carved by his own hand, but they did not have eyes to see (works). So he dwelt among them (life).

This is reflected in the use of deaf, blind, and lame.

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

Sprinkled is like the mist in the garden.

Washed is like the brook and the stream.

Waver suggests walking.

Luke 4:44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. (Water - Word)
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. (Kiss - Burn - devotion - Works)
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. (Oil - Spirit - Life)
