To solve the mystery of the beast in Rev 17, we must solve several layers of riddles.

1. Eight shadows of Christ in the names of descendants of Adam through Cain

All are shadows of Christ

2. Ten shadows of those who live in the names of the descendants of Adam through Seth

All are shadows of "those who live"

3. One comparison between the words of Cain's descendants and those of Seth

The word "lived" is used of those descended from Seth.

'Seven' and 'ten' links them

The five that are not, the one who is, and the one to come.

The one who is of the seven and is the beast.
